Plot[]
The pictures in the story itself appear to be seen through the eyes of a young child, presumed to be a girl. It is possible for them to be a girl due to "Full Moon at Dawn" showing what seems to be a girl's bedroom and the dollhouse that appeared in the "Good Morning," as well as a drawing of a girl underneath a rainbow.
Story[]
The book begins with the girl standing at the front of a creaky gate in the middle of a dark night. Passing through the gate, the girl reaches a house past the gate, to which a skeleton watches her from the window. Entering the house, she finds herself in a dark foyer. There are stairs leading to a pitch black second floor. To the right of the stairs is a cracked open door. Past that door is a brightly lit fireplace and to the right of it is a picture frame with the word "library" written backwards. Heading to the library, the girl finds a hidden cupboard in the bookshelves (the doors are disguised as books) with the help of the skeleton. Within this cupboard, there is a rebus clue that says to go to the graveyard for the workshop key that is missing from the cupboard. Once there, the girl sees the skeleton with the missing key, who uses it to open an unseen door leading to the workshop. Inside, she sees the skeleton working on a ghost machine. Eventually, a large ghost emerges from the machine and up the chimney. The frightened girl then runs away, fleeing to a fountain in the backyard, to which there is an open archway behind it leading to an empty field. The girl then wakes up in her bedroom where she sees the moon outside her window. As morning comes, she climbs out of bed and sees the haunted house as a dollhouse, revealing that the events of the book was all a dream.

Trivia[]
- Walter Wick ordered two Newport dollhouse sets for I Spy Spooky Night and made adjustments to both of them. One was used in "House on the Hill", and the other was used in "Good Morning."
- In the I Spy Snap card game, the paper on the track under the duck is written "Tom". This could imply that the reader is seeing through the eyes of a boy; however, this is unlikely as it is uncommon for a boy to own a dollhouse, which girls tend to have.
- It is possible that the name is possibly not the protagonist's, but someone else's, presumably a friend named Tom.
- All books to feature "The Empty Hall" also included "Full Moon at Dawn."
- "Creaky Gate" is always the last Extra Credit Riddle in both releases of the book.
